First, I just want to say that you are looking great. Especially compared to the start of the year. Remember how 2020 began. The uncertainty of that promotion at work. Coping with the Christmas rush at the restaurant. And the stress and axiety that it all brought you.
Your were a mess: always worrying of what others thought of you. You failed to look deep within and ask if you were okay with how you felt!
Remember that moment at the coach station in Victoria before your birthday, when you witnessed a father smash an Ipad over his child’s leg. The sadness you felt when that child started wailing in pain, whilst the father just screamed in anger for no reason, other than that he was angry at himself.
You just wanted to go over to him and unleash the same pain he had just handed to his child.
But you didn’t. That was the moment. The moment you made a personal decision to change how you approached a situation. You opted to call over a staff attendent, explain the situation & let them handle the event. You didn’t let your own anger take over.
I was proud of you that day.
Then March 23rd, 2020 came about.
26 years old. Mum and Dad has just got you a pair of Addidas Originals – that you’re still wearing as you read this letter. You were over the moon. But something else was troubling you.
The government had just commenced the first day of the national lockdown.
On your birthday, of all days.
You felt that it was very ironic, with all things considered. That on a day where you celebrated coming into this world, now it would be remembered as the day where millions would be forced to isolate themselves from most of society.
It would be four months until you returned to London. To your apartment. To work.
Now, you could have done what you always did when crisis’ emerged: hide yourself away and stay isolated until things smoothed over. But you didn’t. Your spent time with Mum and Dad.
You reflected on the past two year, which had caused you pain, anxiety and stress. And you came to the conclusion that you wanted to change your life, for the better.
And I couldn’t be more proud of you.
So don’t stop now. Continue walking down this path, because I believe in you. I believe that you can change and become a more positive human being. One who can live a life of fulfillment and happiness.
It all starts with you. And I will be with you for every step of the way.
Make me proud.
Your Past Self.
